It's all good.

Mmm... food.

So I haven't been eating a lot recently.

Now, before you get worried, let me tell you why I haven't been eating a lot. You see, my stove is holding my pots and pans hostage. I keep them all in the bottom drawer of my stove. Last Wednesday when I got a pot out of the drawer to make popcorn, my frying pan shifted into a position that caused it to wedge the drawer closed. As in, I can't open the drawer at all.

So I can't get at my other pots and pans, and now the one pot I have access to is dirty, and I'm too lazy to wash it, but I'm soooooo hungry. And I tried to make a frozen pizza tonight (no pot or pan required), but it had lots and lots of spinach on it, and the smell of it turned my stomach. I tried to make oatmeal, but in my current state of mind mush, I made it wrong and it was too watery. And there are only so many bowls of cereal a person can eat.

Back to my box of crackers...

Moon, moon shine tonight

I almost forgot that there was a lunar eclipse tonight. Thanks to Rosey for reminding me. So I bundled up and hopped in the car and found a quiet spot to park and admire the universe at play. It was pretty.

In my heart, you are forever young.

Sad news, friends.

I spent many summers watching Elizabeth Mawson grace the stage at the Charlottetown Festival. In my head, I can still hear her singing "The Words", and the way her voice would catch and break when she sang "why couldn't I show all the love that my heart... felt toward him...". I loved the way she would finish singing "The Words", and she would reach out her hand and gently touch the back of Matthew's rocking chair. It was heartbreaking and beautiful.

For me, she was the definitive Marilla. She owned that role from start to finish.

She will be missed.

Big Smoke

Well, the novelty of having a laptop on the road has not worn off. If I had known that it was like this, I would have bought a laptop way sooner than I did. I can check my email! I can browse the internet! I can chat on MSN! Who knew??

My hotel room is the size of a small apartment. It has a full-sized kitchen (with a dishwasher!), and a wheelchair-accessible bathroom. It's a good thing I'm short, because I can just fit under the adjustable showerhead on the highest setting. There's a king-sized bed. And a couch. And ample closet space. And free internet.

The only thing is, every time I try and upload a photo, I lose my internet connection. So, you all might have to wait to see the heart-shaped pizza I ate for supper last night. Try not to be too sad.

Grounded.

Clearly I am not meant to fly anywhere in a timely manner.

Last time I flew, I was stuck the entire day in the international section of the Montreal airport. Today, I am sitting in Fredericton airport, because my flight is delayed by about an hour. This actually happened the last time I flew to Toronto, too.

The airport is so crowded that I'm sitting in the arrivals section. I really wanted to find an outlet to plug Ezekiel into, but there are none to be had around me. There are electrical outlets about two thirds the way up the wall across the room, but there are no chairs nearby. Besides, if I leave my chair, I might not get it back again.

Oh well, at least I have Ezekiel with me. He'll keep me company.

12 of 12 February 2008

Drum roll please... it's 12 of 12 day!!!!

It's the first time in a few months that I have actually had a computer so I could post my pictures.

Insert work picture here...

8:00 to 5:15 PM Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my camera with me to work today. Just picture me working away all day, which is what I did. And then I got to leave.

5:50 PM First thing I did when I got was home was turn on my new computer. Still so snazzy and fast!!

5:55 PM And the next thing I did was rip open my package from amazon!
5:57 PM I ordered the first season of MI-5, a BBC series. So expensive, but I watched the first episode online, and I think I'm hooked.
6:10 PM Researching flights to Dubai!
6:26 PM My sister called, and she and I chatted while we each made supper. I made a grilled cheese sandwich.
6:37 PM And then I made another.
6:50 PM Sandwich #3. Probably a mistake, but it tasted so yummy! My stomach is still full.
7:20 PM I found out today that I'm going away to Toronto on Thursday evening. Must do laundry!
7:45 PM My apartment had a funky smell... I opened my storage room to discover I had forgotten to take out the garbage! Oops.

8:25 PM More research for Dubai!
8:36 PM I rescued some laundry detergent from my car. It didn't freeze! Yay!

10:06 PM Big Brother in the winter! But seriously... couples? I'm not sure about this.

Insert P&P2 quote here...

Well my dear friends, I must say the last few days have been anything but dull. On Thursday night I went to see an ECMA showcase featuring Chucky Danger, aka my favourite PEI band. It was freaking fantastic, and I had an absolute blast. I attempted to take in some more ECMA goodness on Saturday at a pub downtown, however, it was so crowded and noisy that I couldn't see the band or hear them properly. But the company was good, and evening lasted well into the morning. As in, I didn't get home until 4:30 am, and I'm not entirely sure that I slept for more than an hour this morning. I've been in a sleep-deprived state all day, and did little but catch up on some tv. I didn't even get to yoga class this afternoon.

There's been some other stuff going on as well, but I'm not prepared to broadcast it on the internets just yet. However, I would like to say that I have completely awesome friends, and I want to thank you all for your thoughtful advice in my time of need. It's so wonderful to feel so loved and supported.

And now, when I really should be in bed, I cannot tear myself away from P&P2 on PBS. I think the first two episodes are my favourites, and if someone in tv land has decided that the world should watch it tonight from 10:00 to 12:00 this evening, who am I to disagree?

Sweet symphony

It's so strange, because I've been totally exhausted for the past two days, and now it's 10:00 PM, and I'm WIDE AWAKE. I should be tucking in for the evening to relieve my considerable sleep debt, but I know I won't be sleeping any time soon.

So instead I'm trying to figure out what ECMA events to attend this weekend. There's a PEI Stage somewhere in town, and I really want to go. I'm already going to a concert tomorrow night, but I really want to soak up some more ECMA goodness. If any of you in my vast readership are in town this weekend (this means you, SISTER), call me!!

Click click bloody click pancakes!

It's Pancake Day!

The day where one must gorge oneself on pancakes, because tomorrow Lent starts, and there is no gorging during Lent.

So I had lots and lots of pancakes for supper, and I'm still full.

And I'm unbelievably tired, but that's a whole other story...

Pizza Bowl Sunday

Continuing my love affair/obsession with my 10 pound bag of potatoes, I decided to make potato pizza for supper this evening. Now, I wasn't sure how well this was going to turn out, so I made a regular pizza as well. So it was a showdown of sorts, to see which pizza would turn out to be the tastiest.

Aesthetically speaking, I thought they both looked pretty good before they went into the oven. In the foreground, we have Potato Pizza with thinly sliced potatoes and cooked onions on a pizza crust brushed with olive oil. Avec cheese on top, of course. And in the back, we have Normal Pizza with ground beef, ham, green and red peppers and onions. Mmm.

And they looked good coming out of the oven, too. Maybe a little brown and crispy, but that's really my oven's fault.

Now the true test - how did they taste? Well, Potato Pizza was a little bland, probably because I forgot to add the generous amount of salt and pepper recommended in the recipe I followed. Once I sprinkled some over top of the slice, it tasted way better. If I make it again, I would probably use a lot more onions, because, well, I love onions, and they made the pizza taste like a little like scalloped potatoes. Mmm, scalloped potatoes.

And, of course, Normal Pizza was delicious. I added some sugar to the dough recipe, and I think it really made a difference in the taste.

It's a close call, but I have to give the verdict to Normal Pizza, but I look forward to a second attempt at Potato Pizza. With salt and pepper this time.

Supper was a little late tonight, because I had yoga this afternoon, and had to thoroughly disinfect myself after class after rolling around on a less than clean yoga mat. Perhaps that's how I got sick this week?? Ew. Ew. Ew.

BTW, anyone else finding this year's Super Bowl a snorefest? Where are the touchdowns? Show me some offence!! I'm counting the minutes till Masterpiece Theatre, so I can escape once again into the world of Jane Austen...

Call me Rudolph. Again.

It has definitely been delightfully eventful week. If you've been talking to me at all this week, you know of what I speak.

Sadly, I find myself under the weather yet again. My nose and sinuses are taking turns being painfully clogged and then running like a faucet. It's so pleasant.

I spent most of my evening sitting with Ezekiel and watching some tv. I thought I was up for a Shopper's run to go get some drugs for my nose. Apparently walking and thinking and shopping was too much for me to handle, as I bumped into several product displays and forgot half the things on my shopping list. Like orange juice. And soft kleenex.

I did, however, manage to pick up a giant tub of petroleum jelly. And as I type this, I have some of it smeared all over my very red nose.

Anyway, now I'm back to sitting and watching tv. I think I'll stay here for a while.
